During the opening of the ESA Living Planet Symposium on July 23, 2025, in Vienna, Simonetta Cheli, Klaus Scipal, and Michael Fehringer from ESA unveiled the first images captured by the BIOMASS Earth Explorer. The impressive image shows tropical rain forest in Bolivia. Using different polarization channels, various features of the landscape can be identified: for example, green tones indicate rainforest, red tones indicate wetlands, purple represents grasslands, and black areas represent rivers and lakes. The third EEBIOMASS Summer School in May 2025 welcomed 22 on-site participants from 14 nationalities in Jena, complemented by many online attendees via Zoom. The event focused on the ESA BIOMASS mission, key SAR technologies, hands-on training, and active scientific exchange.
